December 27, 2013 – Oregon Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti announces that he will retire following the Alamo Bowl. Aliotti played the running back position at UC Davis from 1972 to 1976; in 1978 he got his first coaching job as a graduate assistant at the University of Oregon under coach Rich Brooks. From 1980 to 1983, he was the running backs coach at Oregon State under coach Joe Avezzano.
He then took a coaching job under future Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Chico State from 1984 to 1987. He followed Bellotti to Oregon in 1988, coaching outside linebackers from 1988 to 1992 and rising to the defensive coordinator's job from 1993 to 1994. Following the 1994 Rose Bowl Season, he followed Oregon head coach Rich Brooks to the NFL, coaching special teams for him with the St. Louis Rams from 1995 to 1997. After Brooks left the Rams, Aliotti returned to college coaching, as the defensive coordinator for UCLA in 1998. In 1999, Bellotti lured Aliotti back to Oregon, where he has coached as the defensive coordinator ever since.
The 2013 iteration of the game was the first under new head coach Mark Helfrich and it also implemented a new scoring system for the first time in several years. Due to a rash of injuries on both sides of the ball the format was tweaked so that it was simply the offense versus the defense, with a modified points system. The offense would score normally, with six points for touchdowns with the opportunity for point after attempts, and three points for field goals. The defense would follow normal rules for touchdowns as well, but would also gain three points for turnovers and one point every time that they kept the offense from scoring. The points system led to a lopsided victory by the offense, 65–0. Trying to predict the RB depth chart behind the top two spots is like splitting hairs.
We are so certain what the two-deep will look like, but anything beyond that is completely up in the air. With that being said, by all accounts during fall camp, Seven McGee has looked to be one of the strongest contenders for the RB3 role. It's almost a shame McGee wears No. 0 and not No. 7, but Verdell isn't quite done using up that particular number. The Rochester, NY native committed to Oregon way back in 2018, de-committed, and then eventually decided Eugene would be the best place for him. McGee was a four-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals, and 247 Sports. The Bears' offense has been ahead of their defense so far this season, which goes against script for their program.
The Dawgs saw firsthand how well Chase Garbers is playing right now and he should be the most impactful player in this game. I think this line is in the right neighborhood, and a one-TD Cal win would not surprise me in the least . Still, until I see the Cougs put together a complete game against an FBS team, I'm not confident in them. Texas A&M returns one of the nation's best offensive linemen in Kenyon Green, but he's the lone returning starter on the front. True freshmen Reuben Fatheree and Bryce Foster are listed on the two-deep at left tackle and center, respectively. Fatheree is listed as a co-starter at left tackle with Tennessee transfier Jahmir Johnson.
The starting center is Luke Matthews, who has dealt with injuries throughout his three years on campus. I expect at least one if not both of the true freshmen to play for the Aggies at some point this season. Ahead of week one, Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin football team have released the first depth chart of the season. A depth chart that features very few surprises, but does offer validation on a few position battles. Let's take a look at the official depth chart and dissect a few of the things we can take away from it. Iowa is always good for some developmental prospects who make a leap.
This season, that could be second-year defensive lineman Yahya Black, who is listed as a starter on the Hawkeyes' depth chart. He's now 6-5, 287 pounds and has added significant mass in his time in the program. Black was an intriguing prospect in the 2020 cycle and one we liked as a four-star. He comes from Marshall, Minn., in a remote area of southwest Minnesota – the same hometown as quarterback Trey Lance, the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. If Black hits, we could see Marshall with another high draft pick in a few years.
I'm very interested to see what JJ Pegues does now that he's playing defensive tackle for Auburn. Pegues was a standout offensive player at Oxford (Miss.) High and always fancied himself as a tight end, despite his considerable upside as a defensive lineman. Pegues now is listed on the two-deep at defensive tackle on Auburn's depth chart.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him take off once he gets acclimated to the position. The Cougars got a transfer from Washington in former blue-chip wide receiver Puka Nacua. He's listed as a co-starter at one spot with his brother Samson Nacua .
Tyler Allgeier is back at running back after rushing for 1,130 yards last season. Going into last season, some thought tight end Isaac Rex was the program's best draft prospect. He missed the season with an injury, but is back and listed as the starter.
We know about Bijan Robinson at running back and Hudson Card at quarterback. Of note is that true freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy is penciled in as a starter. Worthy was a five-star recruit for On3 and among the fastest prospects in the nation in the 2021 cycle. It's possible we could see Sarkisian look to use Worthy similarly to how he implemented DeVonta Smith at Alabama.
Walker Parks is starting at right tackle for the Tigers after showing some of his upside as a true freshman last season. Parks was highly athletic as a recruit – running a sub 5.0-second 40-yard dash along with other strong marks. The Tigers have not been a NFL factory when it comes to the offensive line. Still, it's not be a stretch to say Parks has the highest upside of any Clemson offensive lineman in years. He's probably at least on par with Jackson Carman in that regard. The Monday before week one of the college football season is better known as "Depth Chart Day." This is a weird, quasi-holiday among college football media and diehards.
Last year the Ducks suffered the loss of left tackle Tyrell Crosby in September. That forced players to mature faster than might have been desired. Now, however, the Ducks have a deeper rotation led by the return of Crosby for his senior year. At the other tackle spot, Calvin Throckmorton started all 12 games last season.
The football players will wear special made Nike uniforms that have "Support Our Troops" on the back where the player's last name is usually found, along with American Flags on the sleeves. During half-time a group of Marine Corps enlistees took the oath of enlistment on the field. Following the game the players line up on the north sideline, with an equal number of service-members from each branch of the military lining up on the south sideline.

The team was led by first year head coach Mark Helfrich and played their home games at Autzen Stadium for the 47th consecutive year. They were a member of the Pac-12 Conference in the North Division. The 2015 college football season is over, and the Oregon football team is in offseason workouts and preparing for spring practices.
Heading into fall camp, a lot of eyes were on the quarterback, and that's only natural. However, another position that has generated a lot of buzz is wide receiver, as Bryan McClendon has a room flooded with talent. After a quarterback battle in fall camp, senior Anthony Brown won the position over the trio of talented freshmen. Brown played sparingly in 2020 and completed just 15 passes for 164 yards. EUGENE — The Oregon Ducks open spring football practice Thursday. Junior wide receiver Jaylon Redd is not on the roster right now because the school says he is away from the program as of the Rose Bowl.
The Trojans have had wild swings from looking great to looking awful. In aggregate, they're a decent passing offense with turnover problems and a below average defense against the run and pass. The Buffs would have to play lock-down defense to win this game and they have not done that against competent offenses. With almost 350 rushing yards surrendered over the last two weeks, it might be time to buy stock in Keaontay Ingram. Top prospects often don't start until their third or fourth year in the program. Of note, second-year former five-star Jack Nelson is starting at right guard.
Nelson was impressive at All-American Bowl practices in early 2020. Third-year former blue-chipper Joe Tippman is starting at center. Logan Brown, a top-10 prospect in the 2019 cycle, is still not starting and listed as the backup left tackle.
Brown is immensely talented but reportedly is inconsistent. At wide receiver, Justin Shorter is a former five-star prospect and Penn State transfer whose on-field production has yet to match his considerable size and athleticism. Xzavier Henderson maybe be the most naturally talented receiver on the Gators' roster, but is currently listed at second string. Former five-star recruit and Clemson transfer Demarkcus Bowman is not listed among the top three running backs on the depth chart.
One freshman – wide receiver JoJo Earle – is currently listed as a co-starter. Oddly enough, Earle was the lone wide receiver signee who did not enroll early. He's a cat-quick space player with dynamic after-catch ability along with strong contact balance. The Ducks had high expectations to make a run at a BCS national championship title. This was the first year under new head coach Mark Helfrich, after the departure of Chip Kelly to the NFL in the previous year. They were undefeated up to November 7, 2013, where they lost to Stanford, dimming their national championship aspirations.
Their second loss of the season to Arizona on November 23, 2013, finally ended any chance of a national or conference championship. They were passed over for an at-large BCS bid at #10 in the country, and were selected to be the Pac-12 representative to the Alamo bowl. Oregon's offensive line had to deal with the Penei Sewell opt-out last year, but now they return six players who started games.
Spencer Webb has played the No. 1 tight end for all of spring and fall camp. DJ Johnson did not participate for the first two weeks of fall camp but made his appearance later in the camp, and is getting adjusted to the game still. Cam McCormick has been an active participant in practice but has yet to see the field after coming back from injury.
This line indicates that Vegas sees ASU and UCLA as roughly equal on a neutral field. Both teams have explosive offenses that use dynamic run games to set up deep passing. ASU has averaged slightly more yards per play, but suffered from more turnovers and penalties. UCLA has done an excellent job preventing turnovers, which is important since the defense has been a problem. It might be foolish given ASU's lack of discipline at times, but I like the Sun Devil defense more than the Bruin defense with two offenses that are both strong.
The Cardinal likely fancy themselves as a contender in the Pac-12 North, but that win over USC is looking less impressive after Oregon State did the same thing. Surprisingly, it took a half for the Ducks to assert supremacy over Arizona. The Oregon pass defense continues to leak more than it should and Stanford has thrown the ball more willingly and effectively under Tanner McKee than their reputation would suggest. BYU was a breakout team in 2020 behind the play of No. 2 pick Zach Wilson and a strong offensive line.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and o-line coach Eric Mateos have moved on to Baylor. But even with those losses, I think BYU's skill-position talent outside of quarterback has a chance to be better in 2021. Looking at Stanford's depth chart, it's evident the Cardinal would benefit from a quarterback who can make some individual plays.
The offensive line looks good, but the skill talent doesn't quite compare to the groups from Shaw's best teams. There are some good players, but there's no Christian McCaffrey or Bryce Love at running back. I don't see a Zach Ertz or even an Austin Hooper at tight end, either. The Ducks also have two true freshman listed as starters on offense.
Troy Franklin leads the X receiver position, and Moliki Matavao is the co-starter at Y tight end. I'm also interested in tracking the development of former five-star defensive lineman Alfred Collins. He has considerable physical traits and we saw him flash some in the bowl game last season as a true freshman.
Guard is most veteran part of the offensive line for the Ducks. Jake Pisarcik, Evan Voeller, and Doug Brenner are all redshirt seniors. Pisarcik can play at both guard posts, Voeller has experience at guard and tackle, and Brenner can play at all three interior spots. Yet it is Shane Lemieux, a redshirt sophomore who started all 12 games last year at left guard, who is probably the best of the bunch.
Oregon could lose defensive coordinator Andy Avalos, who is considered to be the leading candidate to be Boise State's next head coach, but returns 18 players from its two deep on defense. Seven starters return, though the new coordinator will approach everything with fresh eyes. Here's a projected defense and special teams depth chart based upon what the Ducks have to work with. Oregon's ceiling is among the best in the conference with impact players at each level in Kayvon Thibodeaux, Noah Sewell and Mykael Wright.
But ultimately, the Ducks need to show it over the course of a season. They need to be the team that allowed 5.5 yards per play over the season's final three games and not the one that allowed 7.5 yards per play in the first four. The Arizona Wildcats football team has released its depth chart for its fourth game of the 2021 season as the team prepares to take on Oregon on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon. Following a full spring of 15 practices plus the 2017 Spring Game, the Ducks started fall training camp a full week earlier than past seasons. After a month of that practice, the players finally have what they have been working for; game day.
